March Second, then and now

We moved to Omaha, NE from Baton Rouge, LA at the very end of February 2007.  Meaning our very first experience with cold/snowstorms occurred during the BLIZZARD that hit the Eastern part of Nebraska on March 1.  Omaha received a lot of snow in one swift dump.  Keep in mind that for Bart and I,  half an inch was a lot of snow!
See pictures of this blizzard in this link.  We were living in a hotel and hadn’t really thought to stock up on food…thank goodness for the hotel’s (highly overpriced) snack bar and for the leftovers from supper the day before!  Too bad the hotel didn’t have a restaurant, because then we would have been set.  It was crazy, the moving truck got stuck somewhere and delayed us getting to move in, the snow was so hard to drive through and it took the city a while to clean it all up, etc, etc.  However, even with all the snow, it was not sub-arctic temperatures, just regular “cold”.

2008, our second March in Nebraska

2008…sure, it’s not warm, or what we were used to, coming from the south, but that adorable monkey smocked Jon-Jon Jackson has on is shorts and he was fine!

The next few years bring what Omaha is best at, unpredictable days leading up to spring, some warm, some cold.

March 2, 2011…babysitting, bubbles, and jump rope for heart.  Not too cold, but not yet warm enough for a trip to the park.

Enter:  March 2, 2014.

COLDEST MARCH 2 on record for Omaha!
The temperature typically varies from 26°F to 39°F and is rarely below 16°F or above 50°F. (source)…  It was so cold yesterday for this time of year!

Omaha experienced it’s coldest ever afternoon high for the month of March on Sunday at 4°. This dates back to the 1880s when records first started being kept.

Also, Omaha broke the record low for March 3rd falling to 6 degrees below zero. This broke the previous March 3rd record of 5 degrees below zero set in 2002.  (source)

Needless to say, we had a p.j. day, enjoyed homemade chicken noodle soup, and did not step one foot out the door, barely cracked it open when Louie worked up enough courage to step outside to go potty.

And, during nap time…which we all enjoyed…I dreamed of spring, and my pretty flowers that are just waiting to show their pretty faces as spring tries to sneak in without us noticing.

SPRING…do you HEAR ME?  I am WAITING for YOU!  I love you and hope you stay for more then a few days of nice weather.  🙂
