To celebrate the beginning of summer (and mark another item off our bucket list!), our family of five headed out to King’s Pointe Waterpark Resort in Storm Lake, Iowa, just 2.5 hours from Omaha….it’s just 2.5 hours from a lot of bigger towns, so it makes a great weekend getaway. It’s an indoor and outdoor water park, so no matter the weather, it’s a great place to have LOTS of fun…which is a good thing because summer came in with a bang…and by bang I mean thunder, lightening, rainy storms kind of bang. There was plenty of nice weather while we were there, to, so we got to enjoy the outdoor park, even if it was a little chilly when the wind blew.
I rode every single slide at least once, and the indoor ones several times (b/c we were in more then we were out due to the weather). My favorite is the outdoor “Discovery Plunge”…it was a lot of fun to ride it with Brennan! Ethan and Jackson both rode it once with Bart…and once was enough for them. Though, Jackson did ride the indoor slide that uses a raft (the Electric Eel) several times with Brennan. Ethan is obsessed with the Intrepid Cyclone and was a blur running from the slide back up the stairs (all by himself) over and over and over and over and over and over again. Either Bart or myself sat on a chair by the end of the slide and watched as he’d go up and down and up and down…you get the idea. I still have fear for the toilet bowl slide (AKA: “The Twisted Tornado”) but that didn’t stop me from taking the plunge…just once though! I *love* that they have a TON of life guards and they are so attentive! We also “got” to check out the first aid station and were quite impressed.
The boys were SO excited to get to stay for three days and two nights…Ethan was literally singing about this trip for weeks before going! This year, our queen room was on the lake side and it was so so pretty to be able to have the window open and enjoy the beauty of a lake. There are also small patios to go on so we could sit outside and really enjoy it.
Bart really wants to one day live on a beach. I really do not want to ever live on a beach, but I sure wouldn’t mind living on a lake! They are just so peaceful and fun! I think this picture of Jack sums up how excited they were to check in.
This year we checked out the town a little more then we did last year. I went to a super cute quilting store and discovered they have some trendy stores as well, that are normally seen in malls…Imagine my surprise to hear the quilt store is across the street from The Buckle! We also had a picnic at a super cute park further around the lake…I didn’t get its name because by the time we were leaving, Jackson had fallen and hurt himself quite a bit and we needed to get going. It was way nice, with bathrooms, a picnic pavillion, a dock, etc, etc.
There is also a really nice park and beach area right beside King’s Pointe Resort. Brennan loved looking for interesting rocks and finds along the shore. All of us loved this cool slide they had and the tire swing.
There was actually a wedding going on in one of the picnic pavilions! There were red solo cups, so you know it was a classy affair. 😉
Speaking of weddings, King’s Pointe Resort does weddings! I think it’d be really pretty. A wedding was happening while we were there. Brennan and I accidentally walked through their rehearsal dinner and some of the guests were staying below us and had a big (but quiet!) party later that night.
The rooms were nice…clean, well stocked with fluffy towels, a mini fridge, a t.v. with cable…you’d think the boys didn’t have cable at home! Exact same channels, too! The only thing I’d add is a little microwave, but if we’d just really been dying for that microwave popcorn we brought, I am sure there was a microwave somewhere on site we could use…we just were too lazy to worry about it and snacked on pringles and twizzlers instead.
