Have you seen the PBS previews for Daniel Tiger? The boys and I watched an episode on NET kids to check it out. (Sneak peek here) It’s basically a cartoon version of Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood, but without Fred Rogers of course. There is the trolley and some of our old friends plus…their kids! The show focuses on the kids and their adventures. The theme song is the same and Daniel Tiger even has on a sweater at the end of the show and takes off his sneakers as the trolley drives by. 🙂
The episode we watched was fun for me…it was Daniel’s birthday and his mother took him to the bakery to pick a birthday cake! (Of course I liked that part!). There is some drama and something happens to the cake. Daniel has to learn to move on and get over disappointment. He learns how to overcome his obstacle with the help of mom and reinforced by dad and all is well.
I thought the episode was pretty cute. I won’t lie…Ms. Katerina Kittycat and her MeowMeow’s got annoying, but I remember being annoyed by her mother’s constant Meowmeows in the original show. 🙂
Ethan (age 3.5) really liked the show. Jackson (age 6.5) was in a trance watching it, which was surprising to me, since the show is really geared towards the preschool and under crowd. But, hey…anything to help teach life skills and good manners, right? 😉 Brennan (age 9) wanted nothing to do with it. Just so you have age references.
The show is premiering on Monday, September 3…check your local listings for PBS station channel and times. (Nebraska/NET viewers, see below for times) And if you watch it, let me know what you think!
